And this is one of the reasons like I spent, like I waste two years in the university too. Okay? I was like, international team, so I don't go to the sounds, this stuff

You'll just run will not be a big deal for you. Yeah, every 55 k had agree. Five k. It's OK, but if you are an athlete and you you have, ah, test and you know your times and you have to run each K in 3 30 So it's a big, like a challenge for you.

Yeah, very true. This

spk_0

Because my body types, like, gain very fast. Yeah, they were fast. Yeah. So I was lightweight. So my time in the competitions, Like officially time or two. Okay. Was 6 28 damn down 6 28 Yeah. This is for roars is not a big time, but, I mean, it's not a great time, but for heavyweights, I mean for lightweights is okay for heavyweights. Sub six sub sex. Yeah.

spk_1:   1:40
Okay, I am there. You, anytime in the commercial. I like a problem. I did a lot. So I spend a lot of my time doing sports. spk_0:   2:53
For sure it's give me engine for sure. Okay. But give me more mentality, By the way, strong mentality like this. Very boring sports. Yeah, imagines that here, it told you like to sit in the rowing machine on do one hour?

spk_1:   3:08
I couldn't do it for me. No way.

spk_0:   3:11
Yeah, on the mission. I just told you do one hour, okay. Or for anyone? Imagine. If I am telling you, do one hour. I need this average this speed. The these on Daigo is about my coach and back after 58 minutes to check the average that no way too can't cheat. There is average. And he asked you to do this average. So it was like? Yeah.

spk_0:   3:43
No, actually, I still scared from rowing. Yeah, because I know what this. Okay, if he if you don't know what is running mean, Okay. How you count, like one K or average speed. Okay. Yeah, very true. This

spk_0:   4:16
same for me when I have, like, I can't do any distance any time since the rowing. But I hate when I hear Go for two. Caro thinks our race, by the way. Just okay. The river machine in the water. Okay. spk_1:   4:41
you're 72 kilos at the time. What do you know? What? You're right.

spk_0:   4:46
Like 99 in? Yeah. 1992 or 95. But I try to be less as I can, Toby. Good in cross. So in this time, I was 70 to 75 77 And I'm trying to lose weight all the time, by the way, Okay. This is for roars is not a big time, but, I mean, it's not a great time, but for heavyweights, I mean for lightweights is okay for heavyweights. Sub six sub sex. Yeah.

spk_1:   5:28
Really? Yeah. For two k for Tokay. For heavyweights. Him? Yeah, they're easy to go for substance. Oh, man. Yeah, I'm way off tomorrow that I scared when

spk_0:   5:38
I hear two k is like a challenge. Like I have to beat my score. I have to do that. So

spk_1:   5:43
what is it now? You and Jane Henschel Rockabilly Hotel to okay. The wild garlic to K for best

spk_0:   5:49
never test. Okay? Because you don't drawing Tok. Then do something. Yeah, on, dude, you're ing something. Okay, so for me, I have to go smart. That's it. I'm going in the workout like, yeah, I have to push. Have to push too hard. Okay. But not like to care for time.

spk_1:   6:06
Yeah, that makes sense. That makes

spk_0:   6:07
that it's just too okay. Yeah. I don't know. I

spk_1:   6:10
have a try. I have to try. If you try it out, let me know what? Your scores. I'm sure you will be the

spk_0:   6:16
same. Or maybe better. Okay, because I'm heavier. And I still train a lot in the rowing. I mean, my programming train a lot in rowing, ski bike, this car do stuff. I trained too hard.

spk_1:   6:28
Yeah. Now, before we get into the programming a little bit, let's talk a little bit more about rowing because I think rowing is a forgotten art. Any no one really cares for. You see it on your program, and it's like, Okay, 500 meter row. Let me just do that three times and get into the rest of the fun stuff lifting weights. But how important is technique. How important is the actual paying attention to your times?

spk_0:   6:49
And it's not about only rowing. It's about courage. Your stuff. Okay, but yeah, rowing. You can say the only one you need. Really good technique. Like running. Yeah, you can run even if your technique is the good. Same bike, same ski. Okay, but yeah, throwing like this is a way How you test yourself, by the way you cross it. I mean, in car do stuff. You can't. You could test yourself in. Work out 15 minutes, Amra, you can't just yourself in three rounds for time, okay? You don't know this workout. Maybe you will do once in your life. Okay, But good. Tell you do 40 minutes throwing another week to 40 minutes throwing the third week. Do 40 minutes throwing. So this is how you will, like, test yourself. Like you know, you're back squat, so you test it on. Do you know that you increase or you become better or less here, you know, putting Ah, in the cardio how you test yourself. So like you test yourself in your strength. You have to test yourself in cardio like you trained to be better in strength did left in cleaning snatch. You have to train a lot, Toby better in the cardio. And this is worst. By the way, Toby good in the strength is too easy after you can gain weight and train hard and that's it. Left the heavy. But in cardio is more about mentality or Tin tin's about distance of time. A lot of stuff. So it's killed me, by the way. So

spk_1:   8:17
yeah, it's the boring. It's the non sexy suffer instagram

spk_0:   8:20
Yeah, at all. So I'm always like tryingto have hit it like here something during the rowing because yeah. And I mean like any cardio because I feel boring.

spk_1:   8:31
Yeah, not 100% man. So let's go into crossfit a little bit. How long have you done crossfit For how many years this is my sixth years, Marshall. A 60 year, 6 60 years. So you're 44 worldwide right now. Ahem. Della, you're the fittest Arab man from 2019 currently. Fittest. Our man. Any movies had nonphysical head deal on, baby? Oh, we will have been a sand class, you know, Let's be realistic. So how does your mentality right now from being in it for six years, starting six years ago to where you are now. We talked a little bit before the show about the mentality and always trying to develop and get better. So can you talk about that a little bit more about you mean how in six years I do how six years he developed yourself by always wanting to get better versus what we were talking about earlier. How there are some athletes who don't push the limits to get better or they think I've reached this place. I'm going to stay here. So what's your mentality been

spk_0:   9:27
like? Like once I left the rowing, I work in normal German. So I feel it's boring just to train like strengths to build the body. This stuff. So I was keep training corps do like something similar to CrossFit. But I don't know any technique in this time or just the pull of sister push ups, lunges, squats, this stuff after like one year of that. I know about competitions. Okay, off something I called like fitness or this is not still I don't know what is cross it. So I started. Oh, this competition's so I started? No, The CrossFit on dhe. My people around me telling me you do cross. That is how I started. Okay, Even I knew that I do. CrossFit.

spk_1:   10:13
So your first CrossFit competition. Can you think back to your first CrossFit competition ever? Where did you place? How did you feel and what went on?

spk_0:   10:22
It was You mean which competition? It the

spk_1:   10:25
first competition you ever did in CrossFit elf it? Yeah. This was what year? 13 4013. How did that go? What happened here?

spk_0:   10:34
Well, we were working the dream. Okay, so we're like a team on this team like, uh, this whole last Let's do, like, a team and go to the competition and compete. And this stuff this time I was in the army, so I work. I went to the army. I stay in the army for, like, six months or something. So I backed vacation back to my dream, just like two weeks. One week. So they told me that I tested with the guys and they beat them. So he told me he was in the team. I went with them with the team. We did the competition. LF it on. We took third place,

spk_1:   11:09
Marshal. Yeah. So it started off on a high note from the feeling s.

spk_0:   11:13
So it was like, for me, it's felt like it was the team was that people don't know anything about CrossFit, even me. I don't know anything about crossfit, but just, like do that. Okay, do that. Okay. The standard like that. Okay, so we just fun. Like we have energy to compete. We were kids, so we won't win this. Yeah. Yeah. So I's start like that, and we were preparing for next year to compete in LF it the only thing we know if it's awesome,

spk_1:   11:42
man. Yeah. So So what about your first individual competition? When was

spk_0:   11:46
that? It was his second year, but I stayed for two years. I do individual and t.

spk_1:   11:52
Okay. Also. Yeah. How'd you do? Is an individual your first competition? I talk third place, third place with minimal experience to their

spk_0:   12:01
face. And there was a team we talk like, uh, we're ranking fourth place. Yeah. So I was killing myself. I wasn't smart at all. Like I just like I told you, like a kid and I want to do that that I could meet with the team completing the video. Yeah. Yeah. So I was competing like individual one hour or 30 minutes with the team. Wait.

spk_1:   12:25
So you did both company at the same time? Are you insane, man? Dude, And I

spk_0:   12:31
don't know, it was for me, Like, just to compete. Like I recover fast. This Is that so, Like, now I'm like, Oh, my God, How I was doing that in this

spk_1:   12:39
time. How old were you then? How old are you now? If you don't know if they're too Oh, you're still young, man Young. So how old were you, then? 25. 24?

spk_0:   12:48
Yeah, like 25? Yeah. 24. 25. 26. This up for a job?

spk_1:   12:53
That's when you're able to do it. Yeah, that your body is crazy. Is this time to be honest? That's pretty amazing. That's a huge feet. So when was your first battle of the East competition? Because, you know, you worked in Kuwait for working,

spk_0:   13:06
Quit. And this time it Oh, does not people ableto compete in better vase because I What is the same gym?

spk_1:   13:13
Okay, so you were

spk_0:   13:14
more of organizational s o I can't compete. The year after I left is a place because I really want to compete in batter of this. I hear about better days. Like from 2015 Andi, Every time I'm qualified by, I can't go on time. I break my leg. Oh, wow. Yeah. So I can't compete another year. I can't take the visa on a year. I work in circuit flows. So I moved from circuit plus And then I started working another place, and this time I'm able to compete with those.

spk_1:   13:46
How'd you break your leg? If you don't mind me one of these books, You're both Burpee box Jump over. Yeah, broke. You're like doing Burpee box jump overs. How did that happen? I just

spk_0:   13:56
like I was, like, more bearing. So I go very fast on dry land in my feet. Okay. In so the same time.

spk_1:   14:08
It just told gates, bro, That's brutal, man, Like three months is How is the fight back after that? Was it a long rehab process? Was it a difficult process? Where you still working out during it are

spk_0:   14:20
actually like a I was like, one week no, two weeks with cystic okay? Yeah. I can't walk. I can't. Then after one. Then I moved them. I removed once I lived. Ah, this even with them. I was doing like, some stuff in CrossFit. My gymnastic, stricter stuff. Okay, I saw just nothing in my in my feet. So after I start once I move it, I start to train. I was crazy. I still like It's a swollen inflame information like this, but I was like, hungry toe do crossfit to compete.

spk_1:   14:59
So how is it now?

spk_0:   15:00
Now is Yeah, for sure Is much better is okay, Everything is good, but because I I spend like maybe three month is the I'm doing Olympic lifting John being this stuff. And this is what was wars in my leg and my feet. Yeah. So it's still sometimes I jump like split

spk_1:   15:20
your warrior. Yeah, You still feel it. You're still

spk_0:   15:24
not defecting, So all is good. Yeah.

spk_1:   15:26
Washington, that's amazing. Do that. So you're not. Dude, you're crazy breaking. It's like All right, let's get the cast off. Let's go back to Berk. I was crazy. Dude, there's nothing wrong with it. I think that's a lost art in the mentality now Now the mentality is Oh, if I have a little muscle strain, you know, I have to go see my physio. I have to take two weeks off. I have to do this. My generation. I'm 36 my coaches always told me, Eat nails, piss vinegar and shoot lightning bolts if it hurts, keep going in a

spk_0:   15:56
game. That was old mentality, you know, And actually is a mentality that right now, like, if you have injury, is how they teach us in CrossFit. Yeah, I mean, in level one and two. And this system the teacher us like if your breaker are still, you can go to the German trained. There's not one arm clean and jerk. One are Yes. Yes, just the Rondeau. Everything. Yeah. Okay. Just scale it. Yeah, 100%. Not about to sit at home on become fat

spk_1:   16:27
on, Not fit. Oh, yeah? How do you know? My wife? She the power lifter. She just broke her arm and she's still going to the gym. She's doing all lower body, and she's still doing one arm. Yeah, and you know, it's it's but the mentality for other people, any is No. I have to rest it. I have to go to my physio. I have to do this.

spk_0:   16:45
This is the same mentality. Insists him. People like I have pain. Have to recover. I have. So I have to recover. Okay, so just people like they'll never go anywhere there. This mentality like if you don't work for something if you don't believe in something Okay, toe work on toe fight for your believing you will not go anywhere.

spk_1:   17:06
No, it's sure that person everyone fight like you. And now when we talk about and let's go into this right away, when we talk about the people in our community, in this region, so to speak, there's a different level of crossfit that we have seen from you almost separating yourself by 20 places between you and the next Arab. If I'm not mistaken, maybe 15 20 places. Now what has your mentality Benner the shift to the change of mind in the last 23 years to get youto 44 in the world? I mean your two places away from Braun, who is out of Poland. I believe it was a great athlete. How did you get into the top 50 Because there's a big gap. There still is a gap. Had toe in Kuwait with the high level cross fitters. They're great for Kuwait, but once you step outside, it's a different ball game. Same with Bahrain. Same with sturdy A same with him A lot. So what has been your mental capacity over the last few years?

spk_0:   18:02
Once, like I started crossfit, I was like Rondo. Okay, so I wasn't, like in a programming. So I do that. I like that. I don't know this one. I do that. So it wasn't like athlete who have a programming. He program it to compete. Then I moved with a coach. So is two years wasting too from my life as I cross fetters? Yeah. Okay, then I start with the coach Andi. I spend like two years with him. Then I left him again. Andi, I start with another company from UK is my second year with them. Okay, this is how I become developing myself, whatever in any level of this. Ah, like when I was doing my own when I was this coach with this programming, Okay? All these years, like my eyes just have to be faced in the years. Ok? S o. I never looked to be fittest in Egypt. I never looked to be like, Oh, I'm citizen Arab. Okay, so my eye in this position from this year. So I am fight when I will put my programming on Dhe. I am like lake off her study in CrossFit. So I just do anything on die Kill myself? Yeah, in the wrong way. But still I'm killing myself. Then I start to is another coach. I'm killing with myself too. I moved to Kuwait, and this is a big change in my life. Okay, I start training like in Egypt. I train with people, is on me in Kuwait. It's another living with the regional athletes work with them in circuit. Plus in another place is so for me, it was like shock like, Oh, how is this people doing that? Like they don't stop there like machines. So I started killing myself in six months in Kuwait. I lost. Think a wow. Wow. And this is what make me change to for much, much better. Yeah, yeah, for me. I was trained in my own life with a vest weighted vest. I moved the vest. So for me, my weight still heavy as across fitter. But the people who know me is not heavy for me now. Yeah, I lost the look.

spk_1:   20:19
That's understandable, man. I totally understand.

spk_0:   20:22
Then from ah quit, I moved to a woman, then from woman to Dubai. Okay? And all these ways I'm training. I'm killing myself. I meet another people. I trained with another people I'm like looking for much better levels. Train were heart with high levels. I want train with, like if I can train with the fattest in e j fittest in world the fittest man like I can do that, I will go in right now like I care about that. Like how I train with much better stronger than me how to train with them, doing their programming for my programming. I don't care just howto train with them Toby in their level and to beat them.

spk_1:   21:02
How does that feel when you do get to train with likes of Matt Fraser when you get to train with the likes of the guys and the gyms here because I mean, let's face it in Dubai, some of the best athletes in the world come here once a year and they train in different gyms and they're here and you get to train with these guys. What do you think that does for your game? Even if it's alongside not doing the same program, but just being in the same vicinity? Do you think that gives you an edge for later

spk_0:   21:30
on to give me, like, more motivating like, Yeah, my computer. I don't like him Like I want to beat him, is what I feel. Also, I don't feel like Oh, is this is whatever his name was this name of this name. Oh, I won't take picture. I never did that in my life. Never on they hate will do that, by the way. I mean from Antilles. Yeah, like he's affiliate like you. If you're not competing, Toby, this athlete, you will never reach him if you are like every time, like you saw him allows. This is fittest money. Years its top five top 10. So you will never be in this level. You're still get your You have to have a target, Toby. This man not to go to take Selfie with

spk_1:   22:09
him. Yeah, that's true, man. You sure that's very

spk_0:   22:13
well? That's, like, for me is like discussing. Yeah, he's my computer. Like I know. Some good at least. Like they're my friends. Okay? Like a Roman. Franco is my friend. Like we can meet. We can go out. You can take pictures called Sugar. These guys here. Nice. So it's okay to take pictures like her friends. Yeah, but not like he's my compressor, his strong athlete. Okay, even if I will not raise chases 11 staying, he's my competition.

spk_1:   22:39
Yeah. Yeah. And I make sense, man. That makes But do you think like, when you do train and say, you know, you have, ah, high level athlete training in the same gym is you? Do you think that makes you train a little bit harder that day?

spk_0:   22:51
Yeah, on things. Kind of stupid too, by the way. Like I have a programming I have to stock in my programming. Okay. This is what make me, like the same indecency. I wasn't in my average, you know, if in my average level, I have to pee like top 15 at least 15 not 27 or 26 something like that. So what happened in D c c I was crazy. I was straining, like, two days before the competition.

spk_1:   23:18
Oh, wow. Yeah. You didn't take a deal. Oh,

spk_0:   23:20
no, I was until I told you. Yeah, is one of the reasons I strange totally. My life, my programming, everything. It's still it was something good for me and handle. I like everything happened for a reason. If this is I didn't happen. Maybe I was stuck in this programming. Okay, is not a bad programming, but you have to change into life. Yeah, you have to change. Even if will be worse, you'll have to change.

spk_1:   23:46
So what you're training like right now. And how hard is it? I mean, what's what's the training like for you now these days compared to maybe last year The year before

spk_0:   23:56
that she's here Like actually like after the games start like harder special, like I have on the open. Okay, so it was hard. I didn't take rest from the games, then directly to the open. So it was for me like a shock. Like I want to rest. My body needs to rest mentality This stuff I didn't take first my family, like, become annoying like your train. You do that. You don't that you little care, Lee? Yeah.

spk_1:   24:22
And you did be a leader in the open to Yeah. Is that all these things? When did you do the open? When you were doing B Battle of East. Did you do that? Final workout after Battle of the East? Or should you?

spk_0:   24:33
Actually, for me, it was like it's a normal workout, this one, because before the open two weeks, I traveled 30 hours to let in America. Oh, wow, man. Yeah, I spent there one month. Okay, Well, yeah. One month this month, he killed me like I was out of shape.

spk_1:   24:54
Really? What were you doing that month? Wasn't vacation or Well,

spk_0:   24:57
yeah, it was a vacation, but because, like, I deliver the baby, So Okay, I would liver from there. My wife from there.

spk_1:   25:04
Okay. All right. Well, congratulations. Thank you. Congratulate.

spk_0:   25:08
So I delivered my baby, like, one week before the first work out in the open. Yeah. You know how it is sleeping. This is

spk_1:   25:14
Oh, man. Oh, yeah. 100%. I have a five year old dude, I I remember those days all too well.

spk_0:   25:23
It was nice actually was very lies, but I struggled a lot Eating nutrition in in training. It was very far. No transportation. Go to train one day s when they know. So I was like, almost losing the open train. Yeah. Yes, I'm caring about the other stuff in my life. The family, This is star, but yeah, I'm at the data have to compete. But what I can do This is what I have to do now. So I was just run, Do some stuff I can do like outside. The weather was crazy. They're raining all the time too. So when I can go to the gym, I go when I can't I Rana doing other stuff Then I delivered the baby. Then I back toe Dubai like one or two weeks after. So I did already one work out their 1st 1 Okay, bye. Back to Dubai. I did the 2nd 1 when I did the 3rd 1 that I traveled toe Kuwait To do the fourth is a competition. Once I back. I didn't last day.

spk_1:   26:25
Oh, man, that there

spk_0:   26:26
is no any other chance.

spk_1:   26:28
That was what the last work I was before Force One. The 4th 1 So that was the clean. Because it is my weakness. Really?

spk_0:   26:36
Yeah. So I did today's competition. Mike, I have like Mintel. It's too, like I was distressed that lot before condition for sure. Yeah, and I traveled back there. Once I back here like I did, I only have this tribe. That's it. No other way.

spk_1:   26:54
Well, looked like you coasted through Battle of the East. I mean, the last, Like, 10 reps. You were sitting there doing the last few reps with a smile on your face and the thrusters. It was thrusters, right? And you have a big smile ear to hear. I'll never forget this because I'll sit. I was standing watching and I looked at my wife and I go, He's actually smiling, doing thrusters. I've never seen that before. So was that just wasn't like I've won this and I know it. Or was that just like I'm almost done with work out? And I'm just glad Or what was going through your

spk_0:   27:23
actually like first day? I did great mandala. I won almost all the workouts the second day. I have some issues with judging, so I I got second or third in the second day. Then it's us. I mean, in the fur is 1/4 workout is first to work out his second day, then the second workout. Same. I didn't go out first, so I become nervous. Like anyway, even on my 1st 2 was a big gap. I don't have to be like that. I have to compete. Yeah. Yeah. So I become crazy and like, annoying for less work out. So I went like crazy. Even I remember it was a bike. Urgh! So I just go to the bike and close my eyes. Once I opened my eyes, I found the bike in the calories was like 2000 or 3000.

spk_1:   28:15
Oh, wow. Wow, man. Wow. Who

spk_0:   28:17
are crazy? And then I was like, Oh, no, I have to realize I decided that before I go I was angry. I was angry before I started this work up. So I decided that I will go crazy And it was like bike Urgh after rope climb. So I don't need my legs. Yeah, yeah. So I was like I would go very fast. Then I will goto legless rope climb will not affect that much Yeah. And this what happened? Actually, I kind I finish fast, then to the closer. Then I become a head with a lot of friends on a lot of my friends, like inspectors, Like a front of me. Ah, lot of my friends. So I like that. I like the people in Kuwait a lot.

spk_1:   28:59
Well, they love you, man. You're pretty. You had a huge crowd around you. Thank you. And it was like as you brought a life to it. Especially when that smile came out. I think everyone sort of saw the spotlight down on you of what you were doing and witnessing a really an amazing performance, To be honest with you, you know? I mean, it was like no one was next to you in that event. Yeah, I was watching it. It? Yeah, but no one was near you in that event, and it was just seeing you go through thrusters was so easy. And the biker gang and it was just like towards the end. It was. So you finished the decent amount of time before anybody else humber have been lost. So then you went in, and still the next day, you did the final workout for the second, the fourth workout open. Which is the cleans box. Stepovers. Pistols? Yeah. How are your legs On pistols the next day.

spk_0:   29:51
Look, I did I did. Okay. And this workout. Ah, the last wait was 3 15 I didn't left anyone. Okay, so for me was okay. Like I finished all the 2 75 is a bullshit job. I did the pistols, so it was okay. Like in Egypt, Just like I got maybe fifth since this workout. Just tie breaker. Yeah. So I was okay. I was happy shoulder while that of Egypt. How is

spk_1:   30:20
everything? What? The water and Weatherby? Yeah, Muscles. How's how's it looking in Egypt right now? And you know who's on your heels? Who in the Middle East or the region? Are you kind of like, Oh, you know, I'm a little worried about them right now. Are that kid or that young guy right there? He looks like he's gonna be a lot better in a couple of years. Who do you think's coming

spk_0:   30:41
up to be honest, like a bit away from Krystal's life? I don't believe that he's young, so he will become better than you

spk_1:   30:49
know, Young. But I'm just saying a younger

spk_0:   30:51
guy. I understand. I understand what you mean for me. Like just I have to do what I have to do. Okay, So if I have 10 k running in my program and his speed for something 80% So I have to run that Ince in 12 speeds from some and they run Think a in speed 11. So I didn't do what I have to do. Okay? Yeah. So once I do my part, everything I have to do the rest. I don't care. Whatever become first I become second. I lost all the competition. I don't care. I did what I have to do on dhe. I believe that allow would give me the best. So I never become angry like Yeah, for sure. In the same time, I'm jealous. But I still love like this person. His work hard. So here deserved that. Yeah, that's it. But I never looked for this person. His young hole or he become very fast toe Catch me or toe beat me. Yeah. If he worked harder than me, he will beat me. So this is his right there is no cheating in that. I mean, no one is shaped to go in this time, whatever. Even the cheat or something. Like who? Work harder. Who? One

spk_1:   32:06
man? I honestly, that's a very humbling statement to say thank you. You know that. Oh, I'm jealous. And that takes a big man to admit something like that and to say, you know what? I'm jealous. But you know what I'm doing? If I have to run a 12 I'm running a 12. If I have to do this at a certain speed, I'm doing it at this. Certain speed is there. Is there anyone that worries you in the region right now or no? Be

spk_0:   32:28
honest, like I am not looking my region. I told okay, but yeah, there is some good guys coming. I'm good guys. I don't have to say the names, but yeah, there is too good names to good guys like the coming. Okay, but stay like what I said exactly. Like if he worked harder than me he deserves so allow will give him that. So, alas, fair. So give him that. He worked harder than me. That's it. So I do my best on more done my best. Like sometimes. Like my coach telling me plays. You have to go easy on this one. Yeah,

spk_1:   33:06
so we know I'm That doesn't go easy on the guy who gets his cast off and goes right into the Burpees. But that's awesome. That's awesome. So how does that mentality go down when your coach is saying, Look, I want you to go. It's 70%. Can you hold 70% and not give 90%?

spk_0:   33:23
He's like, Look, I'm curable to strength is this period So, please, this will be kind of easy for you, so go like that. So the laws here cardio, but we care more about your strength. So I'm looking to have more strength to be more stronger in this stuff. So please don't go crazy in this one to go hard. So I'm try to control myself. So I'm trying to watch, like, a movie or something. Uring? Yeah. Like to forget. Because what? I care

spk_1:   33:52
so hard. Do you watch a movie during your wallet like card? You? Not what? You watch a movie during your cardio? Yeah, sometimes. Oh, man. Wow. Wow. Wow. It's something like what? What movie would you watch? I'm just like something edition stuff, man. That's all you know. That is epic. Dude, that is absolutely epic. So now if he says that, go 70%. What if it's in a watt? Alright, not you know, not the car. You say. It's a what he says. I want you to go 80%

spk_0:   34:24
in what? I can't control myself. Like for something. I have one running, then cleaned and toast the bar for something. Like So I will do the clean. I'm broken. Then I will run fast as I can. So I'm always remember the games in my head. Last games?

spk_1:   34:40
Yeah. You're hungry and makes sense. You're very angry right now.

spk_0:   34:42
No, even I remember the workhouse. Like in the running. I have to push more to have more time. I have to go less rest between the rope climbs. So now the timeto push harder, like in the workhouse. I don't care about, like, go smart. And this is stuff, okay? And that's what I'm telling to my clients to like. Don't be smart in the workout is your test now, but it's a competition. You know how you fail in the workouts in the normal training. So when the competition is that I'm Toby smart, never push. Then the workout do is the same like you doing in the work out. If you can push, push at the end, that's it. But I'm always like in the workouts. I believe that I have two failed. I have to fail. So if I didn't feel in the workout, I feel like I'm resting like I'm like, a coward or something. So

spk_1:   35:32
oh, that's a That's a big saving because there are a lot of people that will do that. They'll say, No, no, I'm not gonna go to failure. And in my opinion, my my personal opinion. Even when I lift weights when I'm doing back squats, whatever it is, if I don't fail my final set, I didn't push hard

spk_0:   35:47
enough. Actually, what I teach to my people, like whatever in online program or the people in the classes or my PT like I mean for cross fighters. Okay, this is a strength part if you don't fail in last trip. Okay? How you know that this is your a max. So just to go for good form. Good technique. Don't scared from the way Don't get Banik from your PR. Okay, is just a number. You did this PR is yours. So you did it already. So you have to pass it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'm almost selling them. Your technique is good. So go for heavy is there is no any shame to fit the shame to try so

spk_1:   36:28
sure, yeah, yeah they're so even not tryingto 100

spk_0:   36:30
percent snatch just to try for the steps Pull Jum catch down If you fail to catch and you feel back So it's a good fail You tried last No problem. Yeah, But if you just pull and you're scared just because you're a coward

spk_1:   36:47
I like it, man Ah, A lot of people are gonna be pissed that that statement I like that statement right there. That's a great statement because it's so true and you find a lot of people that don't push those limits. And my wife, she was a power lifter, and she used to be in that state where she'd be like, No, I don't want to get to that state. I don't want to fail. But then when she felt failure and she felt okay. I want that p r now. Then it changed. The mentality started changing, and, you know, she started hitting some big numbers in here.

spk_0:   37:15
But like we I'm not telling that for all people, any time. Just when you have to build up. Yeah, but when you have a percentage, you have to be smart. You have a percentage. You will not kill yourself every day. Okay? I don't have wood every day, so So don't kill myself. I don't have to push on 2% every day, so I have ah, like our programming was percentage with everything when I have to push by pushing the workouts so he don't give me a workouts every day. Yeah.

spk_1:   37:49
Doesn't know your coach doesn't give you a work out.

spk_0:   37:51
Okay? I don't have woods every day. Really? Maybe once or twice a week.

spk_1:   37:57
Oh, that's interesting. That's an interesting approach. That's a very interesting,

spk_0:   38:00
because for me, it's a competition. Okay, A real competition, like I have for some 20 minutes. Samra, It's a competition. I will go like that. I have toe finish every round in two minutes or in three minutes. Whatever. So I have to finish this amount of Franz if it reaches this rounds. I feel bad all the day.

spk_1:   38:23
That's tough, man. That's tough. But

spk_0:   38:25
I know I like to read. That is annoying me. Sometimes even in my work. Like I feel bad during my work is just because

spk_1:   38:33
it didn't look good. Eyes. I'm professionally. No, but what I can do, like, you know, we'll do. You're an athlete. I mean, that's what it comes down to, you know, like you carry every athlete you know, played baseball. You know, that was my sport of choice in college. And will you carry it off the field and on the field when you do something bad and you feel like shit for the rest

spk_0:   38:53
of the day about double it's like Jose Morrie about in the regional existed stuff this question. I'm thinking about that from yesterday, by the way. Yeah, and every time I'm thinking, it's like actually my I have to be fittest in the world, fittest on Earth, even if I will not reach this liver. Okay, But this is my target. If I look for something, someone like his top 40 or took 30. So this isn't my mice here I would reach him or less, but I will never pass him. Okay, Because this is my target. So if you're starting it, Toby fittest in Egypt from something. Okay, I will just be fits in Egypt or less. I will never pass this level. Never. Yeah, yeah, but I'm always my eye. Toby, this is my target. If I reach it humbler, they didn't treat You still handle er, but I work for that. That's it. Maybe some stuff like per sample. I have work sometimes from I don't I don't finish my programming because the work okay, I have to sleep. I have family. I have baby spent, like, five hours daily with the baby. Yeah,

spk_1:   40:09
Yeah, I'm a nanny. I was gonna ask How is it being a dad now in managing training and managing a job? Because that's really life. You know?

spk_0:   40:19
Actually, like, change my life a lot. Okay. So last year I was married, Okay, But it's still like I trained. Maybe I woke up eight or seven. Or 10 or 11. Whatever. I have work one. So I woke up two hours before I trained that maybe after the class is like that But now I have to walk up. 5 a.m. 45 30. I have to Yeah, Togo to trained to do one part of my programming. Then I bag because my wife she have work. 7 30 Yeah, so I trained, like two hours, one hour run back to home to stay with the baby. Understand? With people like five hours or something I'm actually like Is something Make me happy? Yeah, yeah, make me happier. Lot is he's changed my life. I train in the morning early. I woke up early so she, like my baby, changed my life for much better. Hamdullah

spk_1:   41:18
Hamdullah. That's amazing. That's amazing. And you say with a smile on your face There are other parents or other dads other athletes that don't wanna have kids because they know there's a commitment when you do have a child, but to manage your athleticism and your your sport and managing the family. It's tough. It's very

spk_0:   41:39
difficult eyes stuff. But if you organized your life, you have 24 hours in your day. Yeah, I have a friend. He just come to the dream, spent 2 to 3 hours of mobility and chatting and This is stuff in the gym and then trained, like, one hour or 30 minutes. Okay, Once they come with me, I'm telling him, well trained right now, So our warm up will be this workout. Oh, wow. Yeah, Actually, I do that like I do every day, the morning. I do my cardio because I don't have this like I'm not patient. Toh, warm up. Go for warm up. 30 minutes. One hour Mobility is this system. So I love to go in the morning and do just a cardio stuff. So I warm without my body for all the day my muscles moved on. Dhe the same time is not like high pressure in your muscles, in your body, in the cardio. So if you will roll your just roll, you will not left, for example, with, like, no

spk_1:   42:39
warm up. Yeah. No, that's that's that makes total sense that

spk_0:   42:42
if I have time, I do something. If no.

spk_1:   42:45
So now, after having a child, does that give you a different mentality? If does that want to make you move closer to fittest on Earth? Because you have a child now, So they're going to grow up looking up to you. They'll know my dad was 44 at one point or my dad was 30 or 20 in the world or my dad was the fittest on Earth. Does that give you an extra edge now? You mean because my baby you mean the idea because of your baby? Yeah, because of your baby. Does that make you want it? More like Has their mentality your attitude change that all a little bit since then?

spk_0:   43:15
Uh, first of all, like Hamdullah, I am a Muslim. Okay, So my own work always. I back it Allah. So if I have any military city, any pushing comes from just because Allah helping me in that give me the baby so changed my life I feel happy with my baby Give me motivating Give me energy to train more Okay, for the last Give me this. Okay, So all that humble as backed Ola so whatever. Like I don't know, But maybe if I didn't get fittest in years will be much better for me and my family.

spk_1:   43:56
Sure. Yeah, maybe a right. You're right. It's true.

spk_0:   43:59
No, I told you I never like Maybe it's the same time I get angry, get jealous. But after like I'm the last moved for much better I moved from rowing on. The wrong for me was a work was Ah, home was everything. I was in the street But after I start work really work I started Do crossfit Okay, I'm I'm a man now. Is that people know like I mean, it's a sport in crossfit. Okay, If this is still the same ing rowing now, no one will know me.

spk_1:   44:31
Yeah, well, if you went to the Olympics, they will

spk_0:   44:34
know I didn't went, But I was like, I have two qualifier or to do qualification. Maybe I'm able to go or something, but still, I didn't go. I didn't like I was my living my age. My You wait. Everything is not like sensible was throwing. Okay. Yeah. So what happened? It's a big problem happen, but it's make a big difference in my life. Is this the same time? I was depressed. I was stressed. I was angry, I was feeling bad, but after is the best thing that happened in my life. Yeah, same in the supporting czar. CrossFit. Whatever happened? I dough my part on the best is coming from Allah is what I believe under

spk_1:   45:17
Khandala. I mean, you're, what, five months out right now? Five months out from the CrossFit games, about almost about 45 months right now, four months out of the CrossFit games. How's it? When's it gonna ramp up? Is it ramping up now for you? Like, did you take a little bit of a D load after the sand clash? And when's it gonna be like, Okay, we're going into this block. It's gonna end. How many more blocks? Air training blocks or you're gonna have before that?

spk_0:   45:45
I think I have. Ah, I'm I mean, the second block right now. So I think I have two more was blocked. Like to stay with me, like, six weeks. Okay. 1st 100 finished. It was boring. Most aboard

spk_1:   45:59
one. Yeah, I swear there's another run. The boring work is what makes you better. I don't really What makes you petal like it sucks. I miss it, By the way, was hating I

spk_0:   46:13
I have to do it. Yeah, yeah. On the in this point. Like I must repeat every week. Some stuff like cardio, this stuff. And this is how I test myself. Okay, so I still don't look toe. Anyone is a region. It. I don't know how he trained. Just I have to beat my scores my times every time. That's it.

spk_1:   46:32
Look to yourself. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, that's what my coach always says to me, And I'm like, Oh, man, you know, I still want to be better than this guy. He's like, just stick to yourself and you'll be better than

spk_0:   46:41
actually, so likely you would be better than him. You were looking for another guy stronger. Yeah, that's very stronger. There is stronger than stronger. Yeah, but if you're looking for the best, you have, like a target. You have, like, good and attention like, alas, you will find the You'll do your best. I'm always my coach. Like, how mean around I have to do telling me you have to do your best in this one. Okay, the other. I don't know what they did, what they risk, or but you have to do your best If you finish and you feel you have to push more. You didn't do your best. You mean if you are number one, okay. And If you finish a new field, die and this is your best. No more to push. Even if you rank last. This is your best you can't control. The people

spk_1:   47:28
know that makes sense. I mean, that's what Vince Lombardi said. If you can look yourself in the mirror at the end of the night and you know you gave it your all, they not know that you did well that day. Verses. If you have any doubt in your mind or shame when you look at yourself, you know you didn't give it your all. So that makes a lot of sense. Now let's go into a little bit about you as the coach, Yeah, let's let's talk about him that I'm the coach and you talked about a little bit about this earlier. In terms of some athletes, they think, Oh, I don't need a coach or I don't need this. Now. When you get a young athlete or you get a new beginner to CrossFit that says, Look, I want to get into CrossFit. I want to do it. We'll do. Two types of people will do the athlete who says I want to be competitive CrossFit and then the person who says I want the fitness out of it. How's your approach as a coach

spk_0:   48:16
in my life as a coach? Yeah, Yeah, I love coaching. I love coaching. Maybe, Like I love to be a fill it. Okay, so I feel super happy when I teach someone something you don't know. So I love to teach the people we're just to go to the board. You have to do that. So I love to teach the people face to face not online from something so online. I just put the programming for the people, but face to face, I can let him do the movement, even if his first day in CrossFit. So sometimes he saw me. I'm aggressive as a coach, not in attitude. I mean aggressive in coaching by. You have to do that. You have to finish this rap, have to keep move. You have to do that. So I'm tryingto move my feeling enduring workouts to them. That's it. I know it's a big gap for someone just to come for jumping is a germ on another one. He's a professional, but I'm just I want everyone Toby better than himself. or herself. So in the workouts like, yeah, you have to push. You have to keep move wherever you're 20 minutes, Samra. So just move in 20 minutes. If you are fit enough, you can run in this work out. If you are not fit enough, you're still. You have to move all the 20 minutes, even if so, super slow. But there's no in the ocean to take Chris on dressed for 10 seconds or 30 seconds in the workout, for example. So they see me kind of stuff like you're another level. But I want everyone better than himself just because the people like love CrossFit it's make you better human. Okay, so we don't do former c carry. Just a toe money, shoes, the gym. We don't farmers to carry prison. When you go to supermarket on, do a lot of shopping, you can carry these bags and you don't have cars. Okay, you park away is okay. You can carry it for one k. No problem, because that you do crossfit okay. Yeah, like sometimes I walk like three K with a lot of bucks. I was new in Kuwait. Ah, no car. So I will go

spk_1:   50:32
for mercy. It's awesome. I think you just sold CrossFit better than Glassman could sell Crossman. Hey, but that's that's amazing. So, I mean, that's a good philosophy to live by as a coach, to make people better than how they were when they walked in the door.

spk_0:   50:48
Yeah, like the people simply They want to get better. Okay. You don't want to be sick. Have diseases, OK? If you just come to Jim, move every day, eat good. You don't have to be very strict. Just you have to eat good. No, just it like stupid every day. 10,000 calorie on. Come to burn their 500 yesterday. I'm training. Yeah. Okay. So just have to move. You have to love what you're doing. I mean, I'm always stealing the people. Believe me, you will miss this pains this sore every day. But you can't walk. You can't lift your are. You will miss that one day. If you stop if you will go vacation, you admit that. Okay. So you have every day to have sore you train your legs, you have to have sore. You do a lot of gymnastic. I have to sore in your shoulders and your arms. So if second day don't have source menu didn't push good this workout. Yeah, it's me in your in progression. No sores mean in the same limit. You never pushed more than your limit.

spk_1:   52:00
Yeah, Yeah. I mean, that's and those are words to live by right there when you don't push past your limit. That's true, man. But, dude, honestly, thank you for your time. It was a pleasure having you on the project.
